The City of Pitt Meadows is located in the northeastern region of Metro Vancouver, which itself is located in the southwest section of British Columbia. Pitt Meadows was incorporated in 1914, and is bordered to the west/northwest by the Pitt River, to the south by the Fraser River, and to the east by Maple Ridge. The City of Pitt Meadows has a geographic area of approximately 85.37 square kilometres with a population of approximately 17,400 (2008).
Formed from a river delta, Pitt Meadows is primarily a rural/low density residential/agricultural area, with approximately 86% of its landmass located within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR). The major transportation corridor through Pitt Meadows is Highway 7 which connects Port Coquitlam to the west and Maple Ridge to the east.
