The District of Maple Ridge is located in the northeastern region of Metro Vancouver, which itself is located in the southwest section of British Columbia. Maple Ridge was incorporated in 1874, and is bordered to the west by Pitt Meadows, to the south by the Fraser River, and to the east by the District of Mission. The District of Maple Ridge has a geographic area of approximately 265 square kilometres with a population of approximately 69,000.
The original industries of Maple Ridge included forestry and agriculture, which continue to be major employers for the region. Commercial and Industrial development, as well as rural and urban residential uses have made Maple Ridge a desirable community for families to work and live in. The major transportation corridors through Maple Ridge include Highway 7 which connects Pitt Meadows to the west and Mission to the east, and the Golden Ears Bridge which connects Maple Ridge to Langley over the Fraser River.
