The Corporation of Delta is located at the southwestern corner of Metro Vancouver, which is located in the southwestern region of British Columbia. Located south of the City of Richmond, Delta is bordered by the south arm of the Fraser River to the north, the Strait of Georgia to the west and south, and the City of Surrey to the east. Delta has three distinct neighbourhoods or communities, namely North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen. Delta was incorporated in 1879, and has a geographic area of 364 square kilometres and a population estimated in the 2006 census of 96,723.
Delta’s land use includes agricultural, industrial, institutional, commercial and residential. Key transportation corridors (Highway 99 through the George Massey/Deas Island Tunnel, and Highway 91/10) route through Delta, connecting the community to Metro Vancouver to the north, and towards Surrey and the US border to the southeast. Delta also has a US border crossing into the peninsula of Point Roberts (Washington State) to the south of Tsawwassen. The Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal provides BC Ferry access to the BC Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island through various regularly scheduled routes. To the north of the ferry terminal is Deltaport (Roberts Bank) which is the Port of Vancouver’s largest container terminal.
